Beyond The Classroom

The Community Garden

Rather than solely sitting in a classroom, this project brings real-life lessons to the students enrolled in Academics for Life. This community garden-inspired project fosters the development of gross motor skills, fine motor skills, patience, self-confidence, social skills, and a sense of purpose as students work together to plan and work together to cultivate plants while implementing real-world science concepts.

Students are currently preparing 5-gallon buckets for drainage, filling them with soil and starting the seeds that they will plant after spring break.

“I am so appreciative of this Silsbee Education Foundation grant. With it, I am better able to give my students real world experiences for years to come. They will learn things that they can incorporate in everyday life after high school.”
